A cat’s internal temperate is higher than a human’s. They range from about 101 degrees to 102 degrees Fahrenheit where a human’s run around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
A cat’s ears can seem to be hot simply because their bodies are warmer than ours.
The only way to tell if your cat is running a fever – that is, if the cat is hotter than it should be – is to take its temperature.
This is usually – like 95% of the time- done with a rectally (in the rear, bum, ass…) with a rectal thermometer.
Unless you’ve been shown how to do it, do not attempt to take your cat’s temperature. Have a vet check it.
But remember, cats are naturally warmer than humans.
This is why, for example, your legs get so warm when a cat lays in your lap for more than just a few minutes.
