Child Batman Robin
How come superheroes never save people in real trouble?
Lois Lane may get into scrapes and Metropolis may have crime, but why can’t Superman use his x-ray vision and speed to find children chained in basements around the world, or why didn’t Spiderman join with Batman and Robin to climb the walls of Pol Pot’s torture prisons and release the prisoners?
No offense man but I think you read into comics too deeply. I get where you’re coming from but….
From an entertainment perspective, fighting villians that are just as surreal as the heroes is a must . Once you start making heroes and villians too “realistic” they tend to lose credibility with the masses. It’s counter-intuitive, i know, but the whole purpose of comics (besides entertainment) is to present really surreal aspects of real life.
From an abstract perspective, Louis Lane and James Gordon and any other secondary character who is in constant need of help IS in fact a general representative of your every-person-in-need. They are symbols, just the cities they live in are symbols that stand in for any city.
That’s my two cents from the over-intellectualized side. Remember, to tell the truth, sometimes you have to use fiction. Don’t read too deeply.
