Ideas for a party costume?

My friend is having one of those murder-mystery parties for her 14th birthday. The theme is 1920s gangsters. I’m supposed to be the mother of the leader of the mob, and I need help for some costume ideas. My mom says I have a budget. I’m only 13 and it’s a boy-girl party, so nothing to racy.
Thanks in advance!
The party’s this sunday…. nothing that would require extensive shipping times please!

A knee length dress or skirt, preferably with a dropped waist (the "waist" it actually at your hip). you can fake it by attaching a lightweight scarf in complementary colors at the hip with a couple of careful stitches. Tie it into a bow. A cloche hat would be perfect, but they’re pretty hard to find. If you have shorter hair, try working in some finger waves, or even a spit curl on your forehead. A feather boa would be a nice touch – they run around $10 at craft stores. You could also try a looooong string of beads around your neck. It should go to your waist – loop it once, if you have enough.

Black eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara are a must. Dark red lipstick but forming an definite heart shaped bow on the upper lip – think Betty Boop or Clara Bow. Check the photos below for more ideas.

If you’re allowed to be a girly gangster, find a funky old flapper dress at Salvation Army. If you’re not allowed to be "girly," also go to Salvation Army and find some old clothes.

These sites will give you an idea of different styles. You will have to improvise, but you can do it easily.

as a "mom" I would do a more conservative look …or you can go gangster mom….with a suit look. The hats are key, and so are the lenghts of the skirts.

I went to a party like that a few weeks ago!!!
Go to a thrift shop and see if there is something like a flapper. If you can’t find what you are looking for, ask the person working there if they have anything in the back rooms or something that is like what you are looking for.

You can make a flapper dress! All you need is some fabric (which you can get at the local craft store), some tassels (also at the craft store), and of course sewing supplies (needle and thread at least). Sew a tube out of the fabric. Then attach the straps and tassels. Its really easy… I have a sewing maching, so u can come over and we can make them if u want… idk.. my mom gave me the idea… i was thinking strapless black and red flapper dress… a little less then knee length…
