Organizing A Cowgirl Birthday Party

I love to organize a birthday party and to plan a particular theme which appeals to me. Of all the birthday parties that I have organized, I love the cowgirl theme the best. I grew up on a diet of cowboy movies and my particular favourites were the ones with strong and sassy women. Who can forget Doris Day as Calamity Jane and Betty Hutton as Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun?

There are so many things to plan for a party: costumes, food, decorations and so on. I love that you get the chance to be creative. To get the party going you need to send out invitations. When I was a youngster my mom would either send out the invitations by post or they would be hand delivered. Nowadays, a lot of communication is via email or even through Facebook You can, of course, just let people know in that way, but a more fun way is to create your own invitation that could be sent by email or through the post. One great idea for a cowgirl party is to have an invitation in the form of a “Wanted” poster. This is easily done on your computer, allowing you to add a picture of the birthday girl if you want.

Once everyone is invited then you need to think about a fabulous cowgirl outfit to wear. There are many available online or at a fancy dress shop. I think whatever costume you choose, you should include cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. Other classic cowboy touches are a bandana or a lasso.

Depending on your budget you can really make the party go with a swing with the decorations you choose. Classic scenes from cowboy movies which you could recreate are a jail, a hay barn or a saloon. Again, you could either make the decorations or buy some ready made to save time. On the table why not have some coordinating western themed cups, plates, bowls and napkins?

As far as the food is concerned there are some classic cowboy recipes such as beans and franks, chilli or tortillas and salsa dip. It’s good to get everyone up and moving at a party and line dancing is just the thing and perfect for a cowgirl theme.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure you have lots of fun. If you want some ideas on cowgirl costumes check out my cowgirl outfit site.
