Gaining muscle while doing heavy cardio?
I have been lifting for almost 6 years. I used to be way bigger than I am now. That was 8 months ago before I picked up speed skating and started training for a marathon.
For the past 8 months, I continued my usual gym schedule, but added A LOT of cardio to my trainings (skating 60km, running 35km every week). I have upped my protein intake to 1g/pound of bodyweight.
I lost 5kg as a result, but my body became ripped, with more and more veins popping out from nowhere. There was a slight drop, strength-wise. I lost a lot of size in my arms and chest.
My question is… Is it possible to regain my original size (plus the current ripped look) even if I continue with my cardio?
Sorry man but not really. See when a person does cardio their body begins to burn an amount of muscle in the body as fuel. Thats why you will never see someone like a bodybuilder running, ever! It is important to know that it is unhealthy to be constantly “ripped” for it can increase your risk of some cancers. The body does need some fat on it for good health. But if you really want to be ripped you are going to need to do some things differently. You need to do a period (a few months) where you are focusing on building muscle through lifting. Then switch to a period where you do some killer cardio to get your body fat back down to reveal your veins and muscles for that ripped look.
